Independence Day Festival

Bharat Matha pooja at Danvantri Peedam

For others, she is just Bharat Matha: but at the Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam at Walajapet, Vellore district, she is celebrated as a form of Shakthi and Bhoomi Thaayar. As per the directions of peedam founder, Sri Muralidhara Swamigal, the 4-foot-high stone idol, sculpted by Loganatha Sthapathy of Mahabalipuram, stands with the India map as backdrop and holding an India flag. It is a matter of interest that regular poojas are being performed to the idol and it would be a special pooja during Independence Day. According to a note from the peedam, the Swamigal has made arrangements for flag hoisting on Independence Day at Danvantri Peedam. Apart from this, Chandi homam will also be performed for global welfare and for the welfare of jawans, military, Army, Navy, Air Force, marine personnel and their families. Further, the Swamigal will be rendering help to senior citizens, poor widows, poor and needy children without any discrimination of caste, creed, colour or religion and will be doing other charitable activities. The note invites all devotees to participate in the Independence Day celebrations and the Danvantri homam at the Peedam.
