Putrakameshti Homam is a special homa performed for the sake of a male child-birth who can become a successor. Putrakameshti Homam is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

Lord Vishnu bestowed the knowledge of this procedure to Sanatkumara. Even, Sage Vasishta recommended Putrakameshti Homam to king Dasharatha. Dasharatha performed Putrakameshti under the supervision of Sage Rishyashringa.
