Sudharshana Jayanthi, is the birthday of supreme divine Sudharshana Chakra (wheel or discus), the mighty weapon of Lord Vishnu. This powerful weapon is carried by the preserver and sustainer archetype, Lord Vishnu, as a solid shield of righteousness which can confront all negative forces that obstruct your growth and success.

SUDHARSHANA CHAKRA IN MYTHOLOGY

There are a lot of mythological references where Lord Vishnu uses Sudharshana chakra to behead demons. But, there are only a couple of mythologies around the creation or the birth of Sudharshana Chakra. One such story goes on to explain how Lord Shiva gifted Lord Vishnu with Sudharshana Chakra to kill demons after his severe penance towards him. Another story explains how Vishwakarma, the chief architect of the celestial beings, created the Sudharshana Chakra by cutting down the brilliance of the Sun and created Sudharshana Chakra using the parts of the Sun’s radiance.

LORD SUDHARASHANA WIPES OUT ENEMIES AND HEALS THE SOUL

Lord Sudarshan is none other than Lord Vishnu. He is called so because he wields the indestructible Sudarshan chakra. The word Sudarshan arises from two words ‘su’ which means auspicious and darshan which means vision. Chakra means a wheel that is in constant motion. The chakra was created by the combined power of the trinities Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. According to Puranas, Lord Krishna and Arjun assisted Lord Agni in burning the Khandav forest. In return, he gifted Krishna with a discus and koumodaki mace. Other deities who wield the discus are Goddesses Narayani and Vaishnodevi.

Sudarshana Jayanthi is dedicated to the Sudarshana Chakra of God Vishnu. சுதர்சனர் என்றால் நல்ல வழியைக் காட்டி அருளுபவர் என்று பொருள். இனியவர் என்று அர்த்தம். திருமாளின் திருக்கரங்களில் ஆயுதமாகத் திகழ்பவர். சுதர்சனம் என்றால் சக்கரம் என்று அர்த்தம். இந்த சக்கரம், நல்வழி காட்டக்கூடியது. உலகை உய்விக்கக் கூடியது. மகாவிஷ்ணுவின் வலது திருக்கரத்தில் இருந்தபடி, இந்த உலகத்து ஜீவராசிகளையெல்லாம் வாழ்வதற்கு அருள் செய்யக்கூடிய வலிமை மிக்கது என்கிறது விஷ்ணு புராணம்.

பக்தர்களைக் காக்கின்ற கடமையும் பொறுப்பும் பகவானுக்கு உண்டு என்ற வகையில் சுதர்சன ஆழ்வார், எதிரிகளையும் தீயவர்களையும் துஷ்ட சக்திகளையும் அழித்து பக்தர்களை காப்பாற்றுவார் என்ற நம்பிக்கை பக்தர்களளிடம் உண்டு எனலாம்.

சுதர்சன பெருமாளை புதன்கிழமைகளிலும் சனிக்கிழமைகளிலும் அமாவாசை நாட்களிலும் வழிபடுவது மிகுந்த பலன்களைத் தந்தருளும். தமிழகத்தில் பெரும்பான்மையான பெருமாள் கோயில்களில், சக்கரத்தாழ்வாருக்கு தனிச்சந்நிதி உண்டு என்ற வகையில் தன்வந்திரி பீடத்தில் சுதர்சன ஆழ்வாருக்கு என்று தனிச்சந்நதி உண்டு.

ஸ்ரீ சுதர்சனர் அனல் தெறிக்கும் கேசமும், மூன்று கண்களும் கொண்டு ருத்திர அம்சமாக விளங்குபவர். தீயவர்களுக்கு சிம்மசொப்பனமாக திகழ்பவர், நல்லவர்களுக்கு அரனாக இருந்து காப்பவர். உயிர்கள் மீண்டும், மீண்டும் ஜனித்து மரணிக்கும் செயல்கள் யாவும் ஸ்ரீ சுதர்சனரை ஆதாரமாகக் கொண்டே நடக்கின்றன என்று வேதங்கள் கூறுகின்றன.
