Sahasra Purna Chandrodayam: This is followed by Arya Vaisyas Family
Sahasra Purna Chandrodayam is the celebration of a person's 1000th full moon during his or her life as a special occasion. This is a custom in India and Nepal. As the time between similar lunar phases, the synodic month, is on average 29.53 days, this is usually celebrated in 82–83 years. This ritual is also known as Chandra Ratharohan.
In Sanskrit sahasra means 1000, purna means full, and chandrodyam means dawn of moon.
A similar kind of celebrations for elderly persons are Bhima Ratharohan (in 77 years, 7 months, 7 days of age), Deva Ratharohan (88 years 8 months, 8 days of age), Divya Ratharohan (in 99 years, 9 months, 9 days of age), Mahadivya Ratharohan (105 years 8 months, 8 days of age).
Also some celebrate Kanakabishekam on the birth of a great grand son/ daughter.
Vedic rituals are done by male only. Female gets the benefit along with her husband.
(The following is the answerer's opinion only)
Why a person, after seeing 1000 full moon should see a santhi (parikaram)?
The moon may be one's Mrutyu Karakan. So Mrutyu Devata is pleased with the Santi.
Why 77-7-7 or 88-8-8 or 99-9-9 like, does require parikara?
The Graha (planet) for that number may be the Mrutyu Karakan. So Mrutyu Devata is pleased with the Santhi.
Samithu (wood used for homam) : erukku, purasu, karungali, naaurivi, arasu, athi, vanni, arugan grass etc.
Teak wood is normally not used.
Teak wood naturally contains high levels of resinous oil that acts as an insect repellent. Teak wood is used primarily in the construction of door frame, doors and windows. It will remain like that without ever warping, twisting, rotting or splintering and stand erect to termite and other insect attacks. This resin remains in the wood for few hundreds years! May be for this reason it is recommended. (The answerer used teak wood from a hundred year old ancestor house for its reconstruction).
